Purpose of the role:

The overall purpose of a cyber security engineer is to design, implement, and maintain secure networks, systems, and applications. This includes researching and evaluating new technologies and methodologies to improve the security of Iceland’s online / cloud networks and systems, as well as identifying, analyzing, and responding to security threats and vulnerabilities.

What I do in my job;

  • You’ll drive the design and implementation of security measures for our cloud systems, networks, services, and applications to protect against cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
  • You’ll be responsible for the configuration, management, and maintenance of our security systems, firewalls, and other detections and logging systems.
  • Monitoring and analysing security logs and reporting potential security threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Responding to security incidents and conducting investigations to determine the cause and measure the impact of a security breach or intrusion, should one occur.
  • Research and evaluating new cyber security tools, technologies, and methodologies to improve Iceland’s overall cloud and online security posture.
  • Pioneering and participating in security assessments and audits to identify and address any potential vulnerabilities in our systems, services, or applications.
  • Understand your business stakeholders and their pain points well and steer your team in the right direction by putting the best team members in the most value-generating products/ business priorities.
  • Keep on top of industry trends and standards, and put those to good use in your products
  • Ensure the team has well-defined epics and stories of working against; write functional specifications that define the expected behaviour of your products
  • Work collaboratively with a team of software engineers, platform support engineers, and level 2/3 support staff to identify and mitigate any existing or potential security threats in our systems, services, or applications.
  • Develop and maintain a suite of policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure and retain a secure cloud and application security posture.
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest developments and trends in the cyber security industry.

Specialised Skills and knowledge required:

  • Proficient technical knowledge of web technologies, APIs, and cloud technologies.
  • Outstanding communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of cloud environments and providers such as Azure, AWS, and GCP.
  • Great organisational skills, and able to deliver results working collaboratively in Agile teams.
  • Experience working with and managing cloud security software, such as Akamai, beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of at least one programming language such as Python, Golang, or JavaScript, and associated source control systems.
  • Previous incident management and reporting knowledge essential.
  • Salesforce knowledge beneficial.
  • Has worked in an eCommerce / fast paced retail environment.
