Facilities Maintenance Engineer
At Iceland the Facilities Maintenance Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring that equipment, buildings, and their services meet the needs of the teams that work for us. This position involves the maintenance, repair, and improvement of various facilities to ensure smooth operations, safety, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Preventative Maintenance
Facilities Maintenance Engineers are responsible for implementing preventive maintenance programs. This includes regular inspections and servicing of equipment, systems, and structures to prevent malfunctions and ensure optimal performance.
Repairs and Troubleshooting
When issues arise, the Facilities Maintenance Engineer must quickly diagnose and resolve problems. This may involve repairing electrical systems, HVAC units, plumbing, and other building infrastructure.
System Upgrades and Improvements
Part of the role involves assessing the current systems and identifying opportunities for upgrades or improvements. This could include energy efficiency projects, modernization of equipment, or implementing new technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
Compliance and Safety
Ensuring that the facility complies with all relevant health and safety regulations is a key responsibility. This includes, maintaining records, and ensuring that all systems are up to standard.
Documentation and Reporting
Accurate documentation is critical. Engineers must maintain records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs. They are also responsible for generating reports that provide insights into the condition of the facility and any ongoing issues.
Emergency Response
Being prepared for emergencies is a crucial part of the job. Facilities Maintenance Engineers must be ready to respond to urgent situations, such as system failures or safety hazards, to minimize disruption and ensure the safety of occupants.
Skills and Qualifications
Technical Expertise
Do you have an Electrical qualification equivalent to NVQ Level 3, HNC, or City & Guilds. A trade apprenticeship with a minimum of 5 years practical experience? A strong background in engineering, particularly in areas related to building systems such as electrical, mechanical, and building services, is essential. Knowledge of building automation systems and energy management is also advantageous.
Problem-Solving Skills
Facilities Maintenance Engineers must be adept at troubleshooting and resolving complex issues. This requires analytical thinking and the ability to implement effective solutions quickly.
Attention to Detail
Given the technical and safety aspects of the job, a keen eye for detail is crucial. Engineers must be meticulous in their inspections and maintenance work.
Communication Skills
Effective communication is necessary for coordinating with team members, contractors, and building occupants. Clear, concise reporting and documentation are also important.
