This is an integral role supporting the compliant and efficient movement of products to Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, the EU and wider international markets. You’ll take ownership of time-critical export certification and customs compliance activities, ensuring that documentation is complete, accurate and available when required.
Working closely with internal teams, suppliers, manufacturers, logistics providers, customs agents and competent authorities, you’ll help resolve complex certification issues, maintain audit-ready compliance records and support the continuous improvement of our export processes.
This fast-paced role requires excellent attention to detail, sound regulatory judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities within strict operational deadlines.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the day-to-day coordination of export certification requirements, including documentation required for Sanitary and Phytosanitary assurance.
- Manage certification activities for movements to Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, the EU and wider international markets.
- Act as an escalation point for complex certification, customs and border-control queries.
- Prepare, review and coordinate information required for import and export declarations, CHED applications and associated customs documentation.
- Check product, supplier and consignment information for accuracy, completeness and regulatory compliance.
- Work with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain certification information, declarations and supporting evidence.
- Liaise with competent authorities, certification bodies, customs agents and logistics providers to secure the necessary documentation and clearance.
- Maintain complete, accurate and audit-ready certification and customs compliance records.
- Monitor certification schedules, regulatory approvals and dispatch deadlines, providing clear status updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Support the Export Compliance Manager in interpreting and applying customs legislation, certification requirements and regulatory guidance.
- Identify compliance risks, documentation gaps and potential delays, escalating issues and supporting appropriate corrective action.
- Provide guidance and knowledge support to Export Coordinators and other internal stakeholders.
- Build effective working relationships across Technical, Supply Chain, Trading and the wider supplier network.
- Support audits, regulatory reviews and continuous improvement initiatives relating to export compliance.
- Help develop and maintain procedures, work instructions and compliance controls.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in an import/export, customs compliance, certification or international trade role.
- Strong practical understanding of customs procedures, import/export requirements and border-control processes.
- Experience preparing or reviewing customs, certification and consignment documentation.
- Knowledge of SPS controls, Export Health Certificates, CHED applications or related certification requirements would be highly advantageous.
- Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and apply them in a practical operational environment.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage a high-volume, deadline-driven workload accurately and efficiently.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify missing, inconsistent or potentially non-compliant information.
- Confident communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers, internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- A proactive and resilient approach, with the confidence to investigate issues and follow them through to resolution.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate, audit-ready records.
- Competence in Microsoft 365, particularly Excel, and the ability to learn online compliance and government portals.
Desirable
- BCC Foundation Award in International Trade, customs qualification or similar professional development.
- Experience in food retail, food manufacturing, logistics or another regulated export environment.
- Experience using systems such as TRACES NT, IPAFFS, CDS or other certification and customs platforms.
- Experience supporting audits, corrective actions, process improvement or team training.
